Anthropic's recent insights reveal crucial strategies for effective AI prompting. In a detailed roundtable discussion, the company’s experts stressed the significance of clarity and specificity in prompts likening it to setting precise GPS coordinates rather than vague directions. For business contexts, including examples in prompts helps models navigate expectations more accurately. However, in research settings, less is often more; avoid overloading with examples to maintain creative flexibility.
The experts also stress the importance of iterative testing, refining prompts through continuous adjustments. They advise addressing base cases thoroughly before tackling edge cases and suggest supplying relevant documents to guide the model in learning specific tasks.
Looking ahead, Anthropic predicts a shift towards a more interactive and collaborative role for prompt engineers, as AI models become increasingly adept at understanding and meeting user needs. Read more.
OpenAI says "GPT Next" timelines shared by employees are just placeholders
OpenAI has revealed that the “GPT Next” timelines previously shared are more of a placeholder than a promise. Despite high-profile projections from OpenAI Japan and Microsoft hinting at a formidable leap in AI capability, these slides merely sketch out potential advancements rather than precise plans.
Expected to arrive in late 2024, “GPT Next” is purportedly set to outperform GPT-4 by a staggering factor of 100, according to OpenAI Japan’s CEO, Tadao Nagasaki. In this context, previously shared timelines may be more aspirational than concrete. Read more.
OpenAI's Sora is stuck in research limbo as the company courts Hollywood and policymakers
OpenAI's ambitious video AI model, Sora, remains in the wings with no firm release date in sight. The delay is attributed to ongoing discussions with policymakers and efforts to forge alliances in the entertainment sector. While the model’s advanced capabilities are touted, its launch has been held back by security concerns tied to the U.S. elections, unresolved technical issues, and prohibitively high generation costs compared to current AI models. Potential legal challenges regarding the use of YouTube data for training have also surfaced, though OpenAI has yet to confirm if this is a factor.
In the meantime, OpenAI is making the rounds in Hollywood, meeting with studios and talent agencies to pitch Sora as a game-changer for creative projects. As the video AI field heats up with new entrants like KLING and Runway ML, none have yet matched Sora’s ambitious promise. Read more.
