Rivals Apple and Meta Platforms Discussing Generative AI Partnership

Apple and Meta, often fierce competitors, are reportedly in talks regarding potential integration of Meta's Llama 3 large language model into Apple's upcoming suite of AI features, Apple Intelligence. Announced earlier this year and slated for release with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS updates, Apple Intelligence aims to equip devices with generative AI capabilities for tasks like text manipulation, image creation, and more.

Apple currently utilizes OpenAI's ChatGPT within Apple Intelligence, but is exploring partnerships with various players including Google LLC and Anthropic PBC.

Interestingly, Apple's agreement with OpenAI incorporates stringent data privacy terms. While OpenAI retains the ability to sell premium subscriptions through Apple Intelligence, it remains to be seen if Meta, which offers Llama 3 free of charge, will agree to similar terms. Read more.
