AI music editor developed by Sony and researchers can modify songs with text prompts

A new AI system, Instruct-MusicGen, lets users edit existing music based on text instructions. Developed by Queen Mary University of London, Sony AI, and MBZUAI's Music X Lab, it builds on Meta's MusicGen model.

Instruct-MusicGen excels at tasks like adding, removing, or separating instruments, key functions in music production. It achieves this with minimal overhead – just 8% more parameters and 5,000 additional training steps compared to MusicGen.

The researchers have openly shared the code, weights, and examples, promoting further development in this area. Read more.

Musk's social media post hinted at surprises accompanying the updated prototype, though specific details were not disclosed. Enthusiasts speculate these surprises may include enhancements for the upcoming Roadster model or introduction of a new entry-level car.

In April, Tesla strategically launched its robo-taxi initiative to strengthen confidence in its growth narrative amid concerns about product competitiveness and delivery figures. Despite timeline disruptions, Tesla is actively managing expectations ahead of upcoming announcements and earnings disclosures. Read more.
