OpenAI Defines Five Steps From AI to AGI

OpenAI has introduced a five-level classification system to gauge its progress towards achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI), which is AI capable of outperforming humans. Currently at Level 1, OpenAI's AI can engage in conversational interactions.

The company is nearing Level 2, dubbed "Reasoners," where AI systems can solve problems akin to a human with a doctorate. Level 3, "Agents," represents AI capable of operating on behalf of users for several days, while Level 4 involves AI innovating new solutions. The pinnacle, Level 5, "Organizations," envisions AI performing the tasks of an entire organization.

This framework, still subject to change based on feedback, reflects OpenAI's roadmap towards AGI. CEO Sam Altman and CTO Mira Murati anticipate AGI within a decade, aligning with industry leaders like Nvidia’s Jensen Huang and Elon Musk, who foresee AGI's arrival within five years, potentially outpacing human intelligence by 2026. Intuit to lay off 1,800 employees, plans to rehire in new AI and customer roles

Intuit Inc. has announced a significant restructuring, laying off 1,800 employees, about 10% of its workforce, to refocus on enhancing artificial intelligence capabilities. CEO Sasan Goodarzi stressed that while painful, these layoffs are not about cutting costs but reallocating resources to drive innovation and customer-focused growth. The company plans to hire 1,800 new employees in engineering, product development, and customer-facing roles such as sales and marketing, although specific timelines for hiring were not provided.

Intuit aims to use the savings from these layoffs to advance its "Big Bets" initiatives, including expanding its AI-powered financial assistant, Intuit Assist, and improving real-time customer-expert interactions through increased investments in AI and data capabilities.
